For the 4th Meeting of ASEAN Network on Microbial Utilization (AnMicro) at the Institute of Biotechnology (IBT), Vietnamese Academy of Science (VAST) has yet been another year marked as a great success by which nine members successfully presented their annual report and had fruitful discussion on several areas of microbial utilization such as large scale enzyme production, biocontrol, food biotechnology and environmental biotechnology. Wonderfully, many works have been successfully transferred to industries. At the meeting, IBT and BIOTEC was hosting a joint workshop on microbial management: iCOLLECT as 28 participants from IBT, other institutes in Vietnam and AnMicro members attended the workshop. This workshop aimed to enhance human resource development through training as specified in the objective of the network.
This year, AnMicro are glad to welcome Cavite State University (CSU) of the Philippines and Airlangga University (Unair) of Indonesia to join our network. The major research focus for CSU are on microbial utilization on agriculture where health, pharmacy and environment protection are main interest from Airlangga University. This indicates that AnMicro network continuously expanding to strengthen the network on microbial utilization in ASEAN.
The 5th AnMicro Annual Meeting will be held on April 2018 at Pullman Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia hosted by MARDI back to back with the 3rd ASEAN Microbial Biotechnology Conference 2018 “Bio-economy from the unseen” which will be held on April 24-26, 2018 also at Pullman Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.
